People sometimes ask us what kind of music we play and who we sound like. Their first question is easy. We play a wide variety of musical genres due to our love for all kinds of music and our varied musical backgrounds.
Multi- instrumentalist Kenneth Bloom has traveled the world as a professional musician and has performed with many artists. Ken is also a skilled luthier who builds, sells, and teaches the bowed dulcimer to people all around the world. He knows hundreds of great songs by heart.
Steve Shelton graduated from university with a degree in percussion but also plays many other instruments. Before his retirement, Steve taught music and band to thousands of students in the Stokes County schools. He also knows hundreds of great songs by heart.
Skip Staples has been an amateur
musician since his teenage years, performing in his first band when he was 16 years old. Although Skip's
career was in engineering instead of music, he played in several bands part-time and is now delighted to be in OMIH. Like Ken and Steve, Skip also knows hundreds of great songs by heart.
The second question is a bit tougher. We all sing and try to be faithful to the songs we play, but we don't really sound like anyone else. We all sing on our favorite songs and believe in the old adage of practice makes perfect. Although not perfect, we can guarantee everyone will have a good time when we play, ourselves included.
You can hear some of the songs we play by clicking on the panels here on this page. Most of these recordings were done at the Arts Place of Stokes, our home stage. We hope you like what you hear. Thank you for listening.
